Invited Speakers:

Program:
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is organizing the 11th Annual Meeting on Genome Mapping, Sequencing & Biology, which will begin at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 13, 1998 and run through lunch on Sunday, May 17. The past ten years have seen remarkable progress in the mapping and sequencing of the genomes of many "model organisms" and there is now strong confidence that the human genome sequence is an attainable goal. Phrases such as "functional genomics" and "post-genome biology" have become common terms. In the light of this emerging shift of emphasis, the new organizers have chosen to modify the name of the annual Cold Spring Harbor Genome Mapping & Sequencing meeting to reflect these changes.

The 1998 meeting will address topics including human genome sequencing, biological insights from multi-organismal genomics, human genetics and biology, computational genomics, genome methodologies, gene discovery and transcript mapping, comparative mapping and sequencing, genomic diversity & variation, and molecular evolution. Interactive demonstrations of genomic computational tools and databases will again form part of the program.

Topics include:

• Human Genome Sequencing
• Computational Genomics
• Comparative Mapping & Sequencing
• Transcript Mapping
• Genome Methodologies
• Human Genetics & Biology
• Functional Genomics
• Genome Diversity/Variation
• Molecular Evolution

Special sessions:

• ELSI Panel Discussion
• Computer Demonstrations
