Program:
The intentional inhibition of specific proteases, which are responsible for the remodeling of proteins, can be key in the treatment of a wide range of disease indications. Identification of additional members of related protease families, as well as conditions for which proteases are critical for disease pathology, continues at a rapid pace. Different approaches, including genomic identification, high throughput screening of combinatorial libraries, and structure-based drug design, are all being applied to the development of potent and highly selective protease inhibitors. Some of the targets for which development examples or pre-clinical results will be discussed include: inflammation, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disorders, Alzheimer’s or immune response dysfunction.
