GENE MUTATIONS: Detection & Analysis

Cambridge Healthtech Institute , Baltimore, MD USA
September 30, 1996 - October 1, 1996

Program:
An increasing number of human genes exist for which mutations are known to be associated with disease or disease risk. There is, therefore, enormous interest in methods for identifying and detecting gene mutations. At the research stage, the goal is to find unknown mutations, but in clinical practice, the taskis that of determining if any known mutations are present in a patient sample. Current clinical experience provides a starting point for understanding the need and use of such techniques, but there will be the need for methods which offer high accuracy and specificity, while also providing high throughput and much lower cost. This meeting is designed to highlight promising new technologies and to consider the prospects for these new techniques.
