CELL ADHESION AND INFLAMMATION: Advances in Therapeutics & Drug Development

Cambridge Healthtech Institute , San Diego, CA USA
April 29, 1996 - April 30, 1996

Program:
Cell adhesion molecules play a key role during inflammation, and have become a very productive target for therapeutic intervention. A key challenge has been the need to identify which integrins or selectins are most specific and appropriate for a given indication. The cell adhesion antagonists that have been evaluated most extensively are based on monoclonal antibodies, for which clinical updates will be discussed. In addition, peptides, carbohydrates and small molecules are being developed, with key examples of each class being discussed. Another emerging strategy is modulation of chemokines, or signals which upregulate the expression of specific cell adhesion molecules. The range of targets and compounds provides ample opportunity for researchers to learn from each other and speed the process of therapeutic drug development. Plan now to attend this leading forum for the field.
