INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY ISSUES: Critical Challenges for BIOMEDICINE & GENOMICS

Cambridge Healthtech Institute , Philadelphia, PA USA
June 6-7, 1996

Program:
The protection of intellectual property, through the use of patents, technology transfer agreements, trade secrets or other means, is critical for achieving a reasonable return on investment in research-intensive fields such as biomedicine. The exponential growth of sequence data, the unprecedented communication capabilities offered by the Internet, and unresolved questions of privacy, security and conflicts of interest mean that the field of genomics is at the forefront of needing to face up to and grapple with these issues. Information on international differences of laws and interpretation, prospects for harmonization, ethical and public policy choices and implications, as well as business considerations, will be highlighted during this important conference.
