HIGH THROUGHPUT ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY

Cambridge Healthtech Institute , San Diego, CA USA
May 20-21, 1996

Program:
In the field of high throughput screening, as well as for a variety of other research and drug development applications, there is a growing recognition that the traditional methods for carrying out analytical chemistry on compounds of interest can be too slow or labor intensive. Efforts to automate, miniaturize, multiplex or otherwise improve the speed and efficiency of chemical analysis are needed to prevent this step in the research process from becoming an overwhelming time and cost bottleneck. Valuable lessons can be learned from the enormous progress being made in the segments of gene sequencing and automated gene amplification, where higher throughput at lower costs are driving technological innovation. These same advantages can apply to analytical chemistry, where there has been much less progress in the face of similar needs.
