SEPSIS/SIRS: Reducing Mortality to Patients & Suppliers

Cambridge Healthtech Institute , Washington, DC, USA
February 12-13, 1996

Program:
The continued lack of clinically significant success for a number of different therapeutic approaches for sepsis/SIRS underscores the complexity of the disorder and the difficulty in developing and evaluating drugs for this condition. Are the models of pathophysiology causing the selection of inappropriate targets, patient populations or therapeutic strategies? Are the current generation of drugs just ineffective, or are there shortcomings in how they are being administered or evaluated? These are critical questions for which better answers should contribute significantly to effective preventative and therapeutic compounds.
