Human Genome Analysis: From Genome to Function

Program:
An intensive laboratory course to introduce participants to YAC, PAC, BAC and cosmid contig assembly, clone characterisation, gene hunting, expression and functional analysis

1. Generation of genomic contigs using YAC, PAC, BAC and cosmid-based techniques
2. FISH analysis of YAC and cosmid clones (demonstration only)
3. Retrofitting, insertional mutagenesis and fragmentation of YACs
4. Gene hunting
5. Expression profiling
6. Transfer of large constructs to mammalian cells
7. Subcellular localisation of proteins
8. Bioinformatics in genome analysis

Informal tutorials and evening lectures (by invited speakers) will supplement the laboratory sessions.
