COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES



Microdebrider-assisted, endoscope-directed sinus surgery provides the otolaryngologist with the ability to surgically treat inflammatory sinus disease with minimal trauma and reduced morbidity, frequently under local anesthesia and as an outpatient procedure. The laboratory sessions (which include all lectures) will provide hands-on experience utilizing endoscopic instruments. The lab session is limited; early registration is advised.


ADVANCED ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY
January 24 - 25, 1997 (Friday and Saturday)

DESCRIPTION

This two-day course is designed for the surgeon who has had clinical experience with endoscopic sinus surgery.

Each day will include both didactic and anatomical dissection sessions. Participants will perform a complete sinus dissection, along with ancillary procedures.The equipment will include hand tools, powered shavers and drills, endoscopes and television cameras and monitors.

Participants in this advanced course must include with their registration verification of having performed at least 25 endoscopic sinus cases and/or provide certification of attendance at a previous sinus surgery course. Registration is limited and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is advised.


OBJECTIVES
The surgeon enrolled in this advanced program should, upon completion, be able to

     * understand and use microdebrider powered instruments in sinus surgery
     * identify and describe management techniques for improved care of patients with severe         nasal and sinus polyposis
     * perform intranasal surgery on the fronto-nasal recess and frontal sinus after appropriate         further practice
     * perform intranasal endoscopic decompression of the orbital cavity after appropriate         further practice
     * understand how to repair cerebrospinal fluid leaks with an intranasal approach
     * understand the techniques of intranasal dacryocystorhinostomy
     * diagnose and treat the complications of intraorbital hemorrhage

Please note that walk-in registrations will be assessed a $15 charge.


The registration fee, which is payable in advance, includes instructional materials, refreshment breaks, luncheons and dinner reception. Foreign payments must be made with a U.S. Dollar World Money Order.

Cancellation Policy: An administrative fee of $50 will be retained on all refunds, which are possible only if written notice of cancellation is received one business day prior to the first day of the course. Refunds can be processed only upon written notice of cancellation. The Johns Hopkins University reserves the right to cancel this course at any time. In this event, the full registration fee will be returned to the registrant.
