Women's Issues in HIV

Program:
The course is designed to offer the primary care provider support in caring for HIV positive women. Specific clinical skills, epidemiology and scope of HIV infection, counseling and legal issues will be discussed. Participants can expect to become more familiar with health care issues of HIV positive women, and the management of clinical complications.


After completion of this course, the participant should be able to -

     * describe the epidemiology and pathogenesis of HIV infection.

     * describe appropriate counseling and testing schemes in women's health care.

     * develop safe plans of care for pregnancy and birth for HIV infected women.

     * recognize gynecologic complications as they relate to HIV.

     * discuss therapies for HIV and related infections.
