We recently decided to air out issues with genetically modified food production and their marketing with the public in terms of green-labelling foods (e. g. organic farming and green traits improving efficiency and product output including C4 plants with C3), use of green pharma or nutritionals and issues of marketing food channels through food distribution [e. g. grocers, specialty foods shops, eateries and caterers (e. g. in-flight services)].
We also aired out our concerns with a major national air carrier with considerable expansion potential in markets overseas including here in North America (see: Vitria Nutri-Health and Food Co., Hum-Molgen.De) and the need to 'streamline' services onboard to make for a more successful itinerary as follow: 1) seating comfort that is both invigorating yet relaxing, including HS or hours of sleep, 2) service and appointments conducive to a working environment who wish to do so as productively as possible, on board, 3) entertainment and recreation that is fun and stimulating to pass away the hours, and the issue of interest here with airline food (see above) that we have started at our FOOD LABS at Vitria (see: Hum-Molgen.De) to feature restaurant-grade food, that is robust, highly enhanced and yet elegant in its presentation as is considered fine cuisine with a green-label option where biotechnology plays a major role in input to raise food ingredients, adding nutritional traits that are health-conferring, food that is environmentally safe, and use of food safe principles.
Green labelling of food products will feature behind the label production methods of foodstuffs with novel cropping inputs and crop byproduct use. Use of low-maintenance inputs (propagation, planting and collection or harvesting with no fertilization, water or tilling), and marginal lands (e. g. graded-high elevation, forests), an e. g. of which, is sugar from maple trees and other like GM saplings adapted for high sugar content to be extracted by reverse osmosis process flow and hyrolysis of feedstuff of cellulose/hemicellulose and pectin for glucose and other water-soluble carbohydrate nutritionals. Growing competition with sugar use for bioenergy fermentation, use of grains and byproduct fibrous residues from biocropping and less land available to plant sugar crops such as sugarcane and beets in the future will call for such green methods for sugar production as an important commodity; a second e. g. is the coconut palm sapling harvested for its low GL sap ideal for hyperglycaemia that is grown both in the coast line and in mixed-farming plantations (animal-crops) for food (e. g. coco-meat, coco-water that is bottled or canned as a isotoniciade), building materials and for copra to be extracted of coconut oil for biodiesel or food-grade cooking oil (a healthy oil) and protein meal supplement for livestock feeding.

Friendly, Pro-Poor Rec-DNA Approaches in Small Farmer Crop and Animal Production: High-Sugar Grasses, Dual-Purpose Cropping, GMO Probiotic Cellulolytics and Phytobotanical Dual Cropping. I. Introduction. Bio-cropping (i. e. the genetic modification of crops for improvement of utilization traits in biotechnological crops) and new insights and approaches to cellulolytics, one approach in modifying rumen digestion will be considered in this discussion. The rural, small farmer needs better tools to increase productive ends with greater efficiency in keeping up with upward food production and growing population demands using cost-effective ones including in-built recombinant crops with improved utilization (e. g. digestive) traits. II. High-Sugar Grasses. Clover and alfalfa, MAS breeding, recombinant approaches (maternal segregation) and biosafety, rumen simulation techniques to study efficiency and feeding trials with dairy cattle. III.Dual-Purpose Crops. Non-protein nitrogen (NPN) and the value for feeding fibrous crop residues (FCR) for food and animal feeds. Recombinant approaches to using surrogate proteins (e. g. albumins from legume seeds) in corn and rice, as examples. Feeding trials comparing dual-purpose NPN and urea-supplemented diets. IV. GMOs in Rumen Digestion. New approaches to cloning in the rumen: 1) the cellulosome (i. e. the complex of binding cohesins and dockerins and the cellulases) with high efficiency (GM)/low energy of maintenance, 2) use of suicide vectors (single-site insertion of short sequences with suicide of vector donor plasmids), 3) evolution of improved GM transport porins with increased capacity to transport pre-formed amino acids (i. e. peptides) to improve efficiency of microbial cell protein (MCP) synthesis, 4) and selection of donor hosts with recombinant enzymes that bind effectively with and that bind the particulate phase in rumen digesta and have better sustained half-life of retention in rumen contents. The need for increased expertise in the use of GMOs that are environmentally safe on the small farm scale level is required in the future to widen the repertoire of the farmers outputs for the production of phytobotanical drugs or pharma from plants at a much reduced cost compared to bioreactors.
The issues around meat production as consumption continues to be supported by strong demand from increasing spending from increasing incomes in developing countries as they densify and urbanize out of their rural backgrounds is being explored at Skye Blue at this time and the consumer should be knowledgeable on the subject that meat consumption will continue to be considered in the norm as it has been and continues to create its own 'niche' for fibroin consumers, viz. cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, equines, camelids, etc., and for these reasons will have the permanent place as a source of meat in our diets, and that is: 1) ecologically in terms of consumption of fibrous feeds particular to their digestive tract, 2) from various economic standpoints as consumed as a commodity based on competition, choice, supply and demand, 3) present issues that are foreseeable from a food science standpoint as to their processing, distribution, storage and packaging and 4) lastly, the 'balance' of greenhouse gas emissions of CO2/CH4 into the atmosphere and cycled back in their assimilation into C-sink plants including C4 plants, algae and sea plankton.
SKYENEWS: It has been hypothesized and observed earlier that “per os” or “as is” rather than other modes of intake of food nutrients are more nutritionally beneficial to health. Studies with pectin in foods like fruits and vegetables and their effect on nutritional uptake, viz. proteins, essential fatty acids including PUFAs, complex CHOs and fibre, water-soluble sugars (e. g. wheat juice extract has recently been commercially tested, produced and marketed), minerals and vitamins, and effective utilization by measuring phenotypic parameters statistically in rat studies are being considered. Nutritional uptake - transmembrane transmission, rate of transmission, catchment, movement, metabolism in gut cell wall linings and their health benefits are being implicated.
SKYENEWS: There is a need to further elucidate the nutritional needs for VitC and complex carbohydrates in the diet and any redundancies they may share. The nutritional attributes ascribed to these two types of nutrients are as with glycaemic load (GL) of gluconeogenic substrates or protein in the diet, immunologic function and the chronic inflammatory response, anti-cancer fighting qualities or prevention and possibly neurological functional implications and on longevity. Based on subjective feedback observations we gather at Skye Blue there seems to be a selective choice in appetite for both VitC and complex carbohydrates based on an observable oropharyngeal taste and appetite or intake centres, supposedly, of these dietary nutrients and their qualities. Further correlations have to be further supported by more controlled studies in future. These studies will highlight the necessities for VitC and complex carbohydates in the animal diet. It was mentioned that longevity or the ageing process are related to energetics, folate-dependent metabolism, VitC, VitD and complex carbohydrates and at Skye Blue particular interest is currently placed with water soluble carbohydrates (WSC) and pre-formed amino acids (amino acids+peptides) or aminopeptides (APP) which may apply with higher animal cellular metabolic systems. It has been mentioned that our conjecture with the good GL mentioned here is that it is a good 'set point' and that high protein diets in 'dietary-metabolic rhythm' (viz. endocrinologically, as an e. g.) is then related directly to energy, neurological function and related to ageing or longevity, possibly cancer protection, and possibly any other benefits- further found to this.
SKYENEWS: The nature of trading commodities using feedstock from byproduct fibre, corn starch, corn syrup and refined sugar and their growing demand and price as commodities on the market for energy use as opposed to food for consumption is deleterious to growing pressures of population on food security and for livestock feeding; there is the option on the horizon to converting byproduct to starch for food, and on the otherhand leave quota of demand at the price set to energy for both corn starch and sugar for fermentation to bioethanol for gasohol, as in Brazil, thus relieving the pressures on food consumption from energy production from feedstock commodities in the marketplace. It is tantalizing at this time to speculate as to technology available in the future that may accrue to converting fibrous byproducts to starch as has been outlined in the literature, in other words, the synthesis of converted starch or "convert-starch", as we call it at Skye Blue.
