SKYENEWS: The NRG group at a local polytechnique in Vancouver, British Columbia, BCIT, is pioneering the interdisciplinary approach to the otherside of phytobotanicals and nutritionals, researching toxicological isues from plant sources and food safety.  They are researching plant identification, collection of flora and procesing to isolate, identify and analyze further putative agents.

SKYENEWS: Research and development should continue, led by functional foods, nutritionals (including supplements, Vit. and minerals) and the "unique" in vivo pharmacopoeia to be discovered by in situ, ex vivo studies that can protect, reverse and even maintain health from the ravages of modern day occupational-related diseases, some scope offered by the low molecular weight [LMW] proteome including transcriptional factors (TFs) that control expresion of cellular gene products and a wider scope found, it is believed, within the ecosphere for phytobotanical pharmacopoeia from their nature habitats, including the vast rainforests of the world (e.g. the Philippines, Borneo/Sarawak, Brazil).

SKYENEWS: Discovery of drug targets at Skye Blue from the posibilities of drug discovery with the duality of Vit D and inulins (fructans) on atherosclerosis, diabetes and colon cancer has been suggested for physiological asay methods or protocols as follows.  TF activation or expresion with cell systems should be asayed using the OATFA system and their asociated gene products (i. e. enzymes, structural proteins, transport proteins, etc.) characterized from a molecular biological standpoint in order to discover and characterize targets for drugs.  Drug design in tandem with X-ray crystallographic/cryo-transmision electron microscopic studies and synthesis and clinical trials will eventually follow.  It was stipulated that although drugs would target molecules involved with specific non-immunogeneic response so as not to lower below the norm, that drugs perhaps affect other specific functions affecting inflammation in some other way.  (Note: there are asays to ases immune system status such as T cells, macrophages and cytokines in test animals in the site of infection.)

SKYENEWS: Earlier we referred to the use of functional foods and their delivery to the general population such as: PUFAs [oleo-margarines which may be liquid at room temperature (degrees C), patent pending in U.S.A.] then kneaded into breads (the French and their Boulangeries or bake shops are notorious for the varietous) with a pump dispenser (patent pending in U.S.A.), a nifty idea, when producing breads in a sink-bowl with drain (patent pending in U.S.A.) before setting to rise, in addition to use when making gravies, mayonnaise, sour cream, youghurt, cream cheese, salad dresings, as the list just goes on and on. The application of inulin in both "as is" fruit & veggies. And supplements with VitD precursors to both prevent chronic inflammation and eventual long term health problems that are cardionemic, relating to T2Diabetes, and cancers including the colon.    

SKYENEWS: What wonders 'Pinoy' (Filipino) phytopharma can offer from our plethora of forests, orchards, farms and fields and its native flora.  We'll be sure to work away as to what ingredients (e. g. Annonaceous acetogenins) have been thus researched in the much loved and luscious guayabano fruit - and their 'tea leaves', that controls the inflammation response, as has been found with fructan and Vit D and what perspectives this offers in terms of small organic molecules and drugs in molecular medicine. 

SKYENEWS: Plantation farming is catching on in the Philippines and the farming of coco sugar based on the influorescence (flowers) and stems and leaves of the coconut tree collected of its sugared tree sap in the tropics and also of maple trees for sap for maple syrup in temperate zones, should be genetically manipulated (GM) for boosted sugar production from a sustainable standpoint of tree-bearing saps, as tillable farm lands become scarcer and the need to grow adaptable, hardy tree spp. in marginal or traditional plantation lands also further adaptable for mixed (plant-animal livestock) farming offering perspectives in their synergy between them. The attractivenes commercially of the functional food of coco sugar is that it offers a low glycaemic index suited for diabetics and shows an investigatable functional profile of: higher levels in minerals: potasium, phosphorous, magnesium and iron and zinc (implicated in glucose uptake) and contains Vit B1, B2, B3 & B6 and 16 different amino acids of which glutamine is highest; in terms of sugar management in diabetes these profile factors should be taken into account and further investigated. Maple syrup and/or sugar will become more attractive as a product and one suitable as an export-grade product from countries like Canada.

SKYENEWS: There are reports out that since the 'Stone Age' or invention of the wheel  with transgenesis of genes first with worms and now with plants like coffee, one, as the promotions claim, that coffee can be taken from pest-free beans that are GMO. This is the first news of food-grade vegetable food material, in this case, extracted for drink, being modified genetically by recombinant means, second only to the precedent with corn (and a few other cases, especially in developing, tropical countries merits such measures); at SkyeBlue we are recommending at this time (see: Vitria Nutri-Health Food Cos.) the GMO production of grapefruit as a breakfast drink or appetizer with boosted fructan as a hypotoniciade, hypoglycaemic and hypocholesterolaemic aide taken for breakfast, during exercise or for a snack or any occasion.

SKYENEWS: The use of low GL acidic foods sugars to cuisine, as with Filipino cookery, include now coco sugar (coconut tree sap), citrus (ascorbic acid, citric acid) and vineagre. It has not been proven how these foods act definitively to spare glucose load in the body vis-a-vis tolerance/uptake as a preventative measure against glucose intolerance with T2Diabetes. So foods such as coco honey-lemon juice-vineagre as a early morning toddy or in a B-B-Q sauce and other common everyday foods palatable to the Filipino diet including the addition to fish smelt.

SKYENEWS: XLGrow is an initiative we are entertaining at SkyeBluePublications.com for colleges & universities in research studentship scholarships for accelerating the growth to sustainable levels as a bioenergy input or feedstock using marine seagrasses by horticulture (on-land or terra firma) which will compete eventually with straw stover and haulms from common or familiar crops such as corn, sorghum, soybeans, and wheat. There are reservations about expanding further wheat as a dual crop for food/energy, for e. g. leaving much scope for marine seagrasses as fodders for both the energy and animal livestock industries. This give added-value to the commodity that it is as more dependence on bioalcohols (ethanol, isobutanol and isopentenol) come into use. Energy companies within SE Asia, for e. g., might be considering moving into this "green" industry in future as other sources are developed and reach a plateau (e. g. solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, hydrogen) and other sources such as nuclear reach a "crossroads" or "turnover" for another alternative down the line. There is now a growing field exploring posible relationships between nutrient intake and genetic variation in response to them and the effect of nutritionals on genetic expresion such as functional foods and, in this case, as feed additives. 

At Skye Blue we are interested in exploring anabolic signaling and effects on growth and body composition and quantitative trait loci (QTLs) mapping and fine-mapping with single nuclear polymorphisms (SNPs). There are studies relating birth weight, yearling weight, hot body weight, retail product yield, longisimus area, marbling score and back fat thicknes with QTLs and their chromosomal locations. 

The use of feed enzyme treatments in studies where anabolic signaling markers can be related to explain growth and body composition response to increased nutrient inputs from treatments, e. g. ensilage with enzyme additions and improvement in digestible energy (DE) and metabolizable energy (ME), organic matter intake (OMI) and flow of duodenal amino acids (DAAs) with microbial and feed bypas fractions. It remains to be seen if there is scope in the identification, characterization and enumeration of markers in anabolic signaling at this time as this is still a field in its infancy. 

A note on QTLs: Large herd backcroses with only one genotype resulting are performed and traits measured or asayed for each group with the genetic markers which indicates both the location and effect of the marker on the phenotype. A t-statistic is derived by an analysis of variance (ANOVA) to compare averages between groups. The QTL is usually not in the gene itself but a closely located or related marker. The markers are variable sequences of DNA identified by the researcher who eventually locates the marker near an allele on a chromosomal number in offspring related or responsible for phenotypic traits. Genes may later be bracketed as candidates, after sequencing DNA, including their specific SNPs (i. e. single base mutations) of interest to the particular effect on the phenotypic trait.
