Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics
The Research Group “Computational Biology and Evolutionary Genomics”, headed by Michael Hiller, invites applications for Postdoctoral positions. We are seeking researchers interested in genome-wide computational analysis and comparative genomics but also with a deep interest in species biology and natural history. Our work involves many aspects of computational biology, genomics, evolution, computer science as well as molecular and developmental biology. The group is jointly affiliated with the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (CBG) and with the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems (PKS) as part of the joint Center for Systems Biology in Dresden, Germany. Both institutes are highly interactive and interdisciplinary workplaces and provide an international atmosphere with English as the official language. The MPI-CBG is awarded one of the “Best Places To Work for Postdocs” 2011. The qualified applicants should have - a PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics or a related area
- a passion for developing and using computational tools to analyze large biological data sets
- the desire to learn about other fields in biology
- excellent written and verbal communication skills
- a strong publication record.
High motivation and the ability to work both independently and in a team of computational and experimental researchers are also required. Good experience with scripting languages (perl, python), C or C++, SQL and Linux shell tools are an advantage. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. If you are interested, please email a single pdf file containing - your CV including publication list and contact information for three references
- a 1 page summary of previous research
- a 1 page statement about future research interests
- selected publications (maximum of 3)
