TARGETING TRENDS

Presenters will explore trends today shaping the pharmaceutical, biotech, and device industries related to Medical Affairs. Keynote address will be on how counterfeit drugs impact the safety of our drug supply. We will provide you with a list of measures companies can take to discover and divert these “imitation” drugs. We will evaluate the evolution of the Medical Science Liaison function, with an emphasis on how some of the changes may or may not be beneficial to companies. We will discuss the appropriate management strategies companies may use as they undergo transitions due to mergers and acquisitions, product lifecycle modifications, and departmental reorganizations; we will show theconnection between the trends discussed and how to maximize the resources available to Medical Affairs. All of the presentations will be summarized and we will conclude with a panel discussion and opportunity for you to pose your questions.

UNDERSTANDING HEALTH POLICY CHANGES

Patient outreach, health literacy, and health policy are all intertwined. Presenters will focus on how Medical Affairs and Medical Science Liaisons can play a vital role. A review of the role of patient advocacy in the acceptance and usage of a drug. Discussion on health literacy and its significance in, patient outreach initiatives, as well as how Medical Affairs can assist in the efforts to improve health literacy and patient compliance. Due to constant modifications in the health policy landscape, we will show that it is essential for Medical Affairs and MSLs maintain up-to-date information on health policy. We will provide information on recent and proposed health policy changes. A panel discussion will wrap-up the session and you will have the opportunity to pose questions.

IMAGE IMPROVEMENT

The image of the pharmaceutical industry, and by extension the biotech and device industries, has been under attack in recent years. Much of the faultfinding with the industry has been based on the perception that there is a pervasive cavalier attitude towards the consumers. In this session, our distinguished faculty will discuss several efforts aimed at improving the image of the industry. Data will show ways to diffuse many of the criticisms and we will explain ways to effectively interpret and utilize this data. There will be an exploration of how the standardization in basic skills training for Medical Science Liaisons can potentially lead to an improvement in a company's image. We will scrutinize the impact of industry marketing and advertising campaigns on Medical Affairs. Due to well-publicized industry fraud and abuse cases contributing to current perceptions about the industry, there will be a presentation dedicated to audits, fraud and abuse. A panel discussion and you will have the opportunity to pose questions.

 INNOVATIVE THINKING

Innovation is one of the keys to the growth of a company, and to the industry as a whole. Our faculty for this closing session will focus on the impact of innovative thinking and technology on the industry. There will be a presentation on corporate and product innovations and their effect on managing the bottom line. Since the growth of the device industry is largely based on groundbreaking technologies, we will highlight some of these technologies and emerging trends in device development. To conclude we will discuss shifts in paradigm and novel changes in Staffing models.
